Explore and Explain First Classroom

As a new teacher under observation, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the peer review system? How does its potential effectiveness compare with more traditional approaches? Would you want to be observed and evaluated in this way? Explain your answer in the blog and add the link to this week's  forum.

Advantages:
-You receive positive and negative feedback on how to improve your instruction
-Your receive creative ideas on how to guide the class through the instruction
-Mistakes happen and the observer can offer good solutions for future references
-Observer can offer preparation guides for the teacher who will be observed

Disadvantages:
-It can come across as very intimidating
-It can be nerve wracking for people who are very emotional and self contentious of their work
-Due to nerves, new teachers can make a lot of mistakes that he/she would not normally make on a regular day
-It can be stressful preparing for it
-There is a lot of preparation and work involved

Traditional approaches are a lot more time consuming. We live in a society where we have to move fast in order to get all of our goals and objectives done especially in New York State. There are a lot of errands and responsibilities to fulfill and not enough time in the day to do it all. The competition for acquiring a job is always growing and it never seems to be slowing down so that is also that we must always deal with. Technology helps us use our time more efficiently and enables us to get a lot more things done at a faster rate. Although technology is beneficial in many ways, I am still an old school type of person. I would actually prefer my observer to be in person. I think it's a more hands on approach and it would be easier to comprehend their advice by reading their facial expressions and body language.

How many different types of online job resources can you identify? Write a one-paragraph description of each type.
The US Department of Education
The website is easy to operate. It provides the reader with different branches of schools and not just one type. It gives people guidance on laws, regulations, student loans, civil rights, etc. It has a lot of links that present teacher job opportunities for people who are graduating from college.

K12jobspot
This site is very colorful and also easy to operate. This site gives the reader the option of how often or how many hours a person could work. For example, there are categories labeled as full time jobs and part time jobs. It also locates job opportunities from state to state.

Teaching Jobs Overseas
This site is very direst with the information that it offers. I really liked the changing illustrations on the right side of the web because it captures the reader's attention right away. It offers opportunities to go teach abroad which is an incredible challenge but yet a thrilling adventure. It also provides information on the requirements, rules, guideline and advertisement.

Americorps
This site has a very nice blackboard theme and the categories for the site came up first before any other information is presented. On top of job opportunities, it also offers information on loans, scholarships, debt consolidation, and different degrees. By clicking on the categories, it redirects the reader to a link where the person can find the answers or information related to the category that they clicked on.

Which resources did you find most helpful? Least helpful? When it comes time to start your real job search, do you think you will use the Internet as a primary resource? Why or why not?

I thought the most helpful sites were the K12jobspot and the US Department of Education. Although the information was a bit much to read, the sites give people direct locations and more links on schools that are in need of new teachers. These sites also provide additional information on how to reduce loans and offer helpful sites on how to manage your own teacher program. I will use the internet access to look up primary sources and print them out. However, I don't see myself becoming extremely dependent on just technology alone when it comes to lesson planning. I think a good teacher should find a good balance between using technology and still preserving some traditional methods.
