Reflection of the Multimedia Tool Project

Reflection of Multimedia Tool Project

For my multimedia tool I decided to pick Prezi.  Prezi is a program that is very similar to power point but has more features to work with and it is presented in a more stimulating way.  Prezi has a lot more tools to work with and digitally it is more appealing to the eye than power point.

How does it work?

-          As you soon as a student or a teacher opens a Prezi page, this program starts by automatically bringing up instructional slides that have step by step directions in terms of how to use this program.
-          Every slide has an illustration of the written directions to make it easier for visual learners.
-          The illustrations also have digital movement added to them to show the viewer how the action is performed according to the written directions.
-          The first slide shows us that the user has to come up with a title and with Prezi the whole presentation is arranged on one big canvas so the student can show ideas in context.
-          Then it zooms into the details which keep the audience focused and engaged.
-          The students can pick any different type of background illustration for their canvas and set up the order however they choose to or see as fit.
-          While presenting the information to the class, the screen will move in the order the students set it up in, like a moving timeline.
-          Once the students are done reading the instructional slides, there are also digital tutorials all round the canvas to continue to help students work their way around the project to limit mistakes and be more efficient with their time.
-          The digital tutorials look like little blue buttons with an arrow pointing to a tool on the Prezi canvas. All that a student would have to do is click on it and it will show the student what that tool does.
-          Students can add slides by clicking on the top left circle button that says Circle frame.
-          Students can add information to the slide by clicking inside it. They can also move the slide anywhere they would like on the canvas by clicking on the edge of the slide and moving it to the desired spot.
-          Students are able to insert images and links to a video by clicking on the insert button which is located right at the top of the canvas in the middle.
-          Other tools are located on the right side of the screen and the slides are all listed in order on the left side of the screen.
-          Once the students or the teacher is done editing, there is a bright blue button on the top right side of the screen that has a play arrow and says Present on it. The viewer can click that and the canvas will present itself.

Benefits?

I think that people have gotten very comfortable with using power point and word because they are such easy programs to work with. However, they are not the most entertaining programs to work with in the eyes of the students and younger students get bored very easily. In order to keep them entertained and engaged into the content, teachers have to improvise and come up with more than one kind of method to use when presenting a lecture. Prezi moves the screen with the information in it which will make a student want to pay attention because they have to keep up with the screen so that they do not miss anything.  Teachers can also rewind if they have to or need to, in order to explain a term again. Visually wise it is very stimulating and teachers or students can create memorable impacts by showing how ideas relate. Using this program will also demonstrate to the students that there are other multimedia tools to work with and they don’t have to limit themselves to only using word or power point. The students can have fun while working with this program and by having fun they are building tech skills.  This program can also motivate students to bring out their creativity side more often. Creativity is so important to have because that is what will open up their minds to new ideas and that is what will ultimately allow them to gain more knowledge. The more ideas they think of the more experience they will build and the more opportunities they will receive.

My presentation of using Prezi as my multimedia tool

  1. Claudia, that is a wonderful point about Prezi compared to PowerPoint. I know we've said it before, but it always bears saying again for good measure: Prezi is active and it is easier to visually retain attention with, while PowerPoint is often used wrong, and is frequently boring for students. I even find myself, that I am often bored by PowerPoint-based lectures. It's always the same old gradient light blue background with black writing, and it all seems to mesh together into a blur that could leave you asleep at the end, where I find that with Prezi, even if I'm not the one controlling it, there is enough going on to keep me paying attention without feeling like I am forcing myself to do so.
