The School Board Meeting

  1. Would you support the establishment of the Escalante School? Why or why not?                                                                                                                                                                                                    I do agree with the establishment of the Escalante school because the video expressed that there is a very large number of minority students in risk of failing and dropping out of school. There is a big educational gap between white students and colored students. As a society we are responsible for all of our students not just the white students and we have to make sure that we do everything in our power to help them because if they drop out and give up on their education they will most likely turn to crime and end up in jail. We can all agree that having our students turn to a life of crime is the last thing we want to see happen. This establishment would offer a good support group with tutors and counseling programs that can help students of color academically progress.
  2. Why can school boards be resistant to change?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Because the board is worried about the technicalities of putting this facility together. Technicalities such as, who will be served? how many students will the building have the capacity to hold? what is the main mission of this school? and what would some of the obstacle barriers be? Also, in order to built such an establishment, it would take a lot of time and direct instruction from the school board with who ever is in charge of this project and the board might not have the time to do so. Lastly, the cost of building such a school could also prove to be a problem. Some remaining questions are, will the school have outside partnerships? or outside resources? and where will the school be located?
