Explore and Explain First Classroom 2

The NBPTS Latest Developments and Future Plans:

This board wants to build a stronger teaching profession across the whole nation. They want to bring in a set of new teachers that are mentally more flexible and better prepared. They want teachers to use a website called ATLAS, which stands for Accomplished Teaching, Learning and Schools. They want this site to be used because it provides a lot of insightful videos on instructional materials, written reflections & analysis, and access to over one thousand cases covering a variety of grades in different school settings.
The NBPTS is working with districts, teacher associations and state representatives to make the board certification the new norm. They believe that it would be more beneficial towards existing teachers and new upcoming teachers. It supports new teachers to develop into accomplished productioners, leads to better professional learning, and integrates board certification attributes into the teacher's work. It is believed that in time if the the majority of the teacher population become board approved then there will be improved student learning which is the ultimate goal for everyone.

Now that you are more familiar with this organization, do you think you will work toward board certification? Why or why not?

I don't mind being able to become board certified for the sake of my students. I would always look for ways and methods to help the students because they are more important than anything else when it comes to this profession. However, I would have to be given some proof of this method to see if it actually works and provides positive results. Also, I would have some questions: Would I be required to take more educational courses in college? if so, then who is paying for it? Will teachers have enough time to work on getting certified and still apply their attention towards their students? or will it take away from the students because the teacher will be so tired from the amount of work involved to become board certified?

Explore and Explain First Classroom

As a new teacher under observation, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the peer review system? How does its potential effectiveness compare with more traditional approaches? Would you want to be observed and evaluated in this way? Explain your answer in the blog and add the link to this week's  forum.

Advantages:
-You receive positive and negative feedback on how to improve your instruction
-Your receive creative ideas on how to guide the class through the instruction
-Mistakes happen and the observer can offer good solutions for future references
-Observer can offer preparation guides for the teacher who will be observed

Disadvantages:
-It can come across as very intimidating
-It can be nerve wracking for people who are very emotional and self contentious of their work
-Due to nerves, new teachers can make a lot of mistakes that he/she would not normally make on a regular day
-It can be stressful preparing for it
-There is a lot of preparation and work involved

Traditional approaches are a lot more time consuming. We live in a society where we have to move fast in order to get all of our goals and objectives done especially in New York State. There are a lot of errands and responsibilities to fulfill and not enough time in the day to do it all. The competition for acquiring a job is always growing and it never seems to be slowing down so that is also that we must always deal with. Technology helps us use our time more efficiently and enables us to get a lot more things done at a faster rate. Although technology is beneficial in many ways, I am still an old school type of person. I would actually prefer my observer to be in person. I think it's a more hands on approach and it would be easier to comprehend their advice by reading their facial expressions and body language.

How many different types of online job resources can you identify? Write a one-paragraph description of each type.
The US Department of Education
The website is easy to operate. It provides the reader with different branches of schools and not just one type. It gives people guidance on laws, regulations, student loans, civil rights, etc. It has a lot of links that present teacher job opportunities for people who are graduating from college.

K12jobspot
This site is very colorful and also easy to operate. This site gives the reader the option of how often or how many hours a person could work. For example, there are categories labeled as full time jobs and part time jobs. It also locates job opportunities from state to state.

Teaching Jobs Overseas
This site is very direst with the information that it offers. I really liked the changing illustrations on the right side of the web because it captures the reader's attention right away. It offers opportunities to go teach abroad which is an incredible challenge but yet a thrilling adventure. It also provides information on the requirements, rules, guideline and advertisement.

Americorps
This site has a very nice blackboard theme and the categories for the site came up first before any other information is presented. On top of job opportunities, it also offers information on loans, scholarships, debt consolidation, and different degrees. By clicking on the categories, it redirects the reader to a link where the person can find the answers or information related to the category that they clicked on.

Which resources did you find most helpful? Least helpful? When it comes time to start your real job search, do you think you will use the Internet as a primary resource? Why or why not?

I thought the most helpful sites were the K12jobspot and the US Department of Education. Although the information was a bit much to read, the sites give people direct locations and more links on schools that are in need of new teachers. These sites also provide additional information on how to reduce loans and offer helpful sites on how to manage your own teacher program. I will use the internet access to look up primary sources and print them out. However, I don't see myself becoming extremely dependent on just technology alone when it comes to lesson planning. I think a good teacher should find a good balance between using technology and still preserving some traditional methods.

Elaborate , First Classroom

I picked a vertical secondary classroom because for one, I am a secondary major and for two, I thought that the vertical look was the most comfortable for the students. Students have to be able to see and have access to the white board so it made sense to place the teacher's desk off to the side while still facing the students at the same time. It also gives students more mobility to work with and go up to the white board so that they can write their answers to an activity. It gives more mobility towards the teacher as well because it allows him/her to move easily in front of the class. It enable the students to move their desks easily too for a specific activity. Lastly, having the teacher desk set to the side is a less intimidating atmosphere for certain students.

Letter to Myself

Dear Me,

Although I feel that I am getting stronger and stronger in my master's program, I know that there is still much to be done before I can classify myself as an official educator. I still have many tasks and challenges that i need to face so that I can be fully prepared to take on a class under my wing. Even though the journey has not yet ended, here is what I do know about myself so far.
I know that I have managed to complete every single assignment from every single different class and always handed them in on time. I have managed to work multiple jobs at one time, maintain a social life, attend at important events and get good grades throughout every single semester of my college years. I know that i have corrected mt mistakes at every chance that I was given and took constructive criticism very seriously whenever it was given to me. I know that my writing capabilities have improved tremendously and I know that I have a natural way of connecting with the students in terms of how to help them learn their historical content.
My strengths are that I know how to organize information and make it relatable to background knowledge so that it becomes easier to remember for the students. I also know how to apply cultural pedagogy/relevancy to my lesson plans so that they are creative, differentiated and the students have an easier time comprehending the material. Through this program I have learned how to become a more patient person. I have also learned how to use technology to make my time more efficient.
My weaknesses are that there is still a lot of learning and preparing to do when it comes to formulating successful lesson plans. I also need more live experience on direct instruction with the students. Lastly, I have to get into the habit of using more technological tools to my lesson plans so that I have a variety of apps that I can use at any time to make my lecture time in class more interesting.
In terms of being a teacher, I want to be the kind that the students always remember because of how much fun they had but also because of how much information they were able to retain. I want to form an extremely active and productive classroom. I want my lesson plans to be filled with activities, games, illustrations and videos. More importantly, I want my future students to feel safe and comfortable enough so that they share their thoughts and participate frequently. Having them speak allows me to get to know their own strengths and weaknesses so that I may know how to work with them and help them academically evolve.

                                                                                               Yours Truly,
                                                                                                             Claudineeee ^.^
